Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy

Predecessor firms to this famous organization date back to 1866. The present name of the partnership was assumed in 1963. The firm's name partners were all leaders in the profession: Albert C. Milbank was a well-known lawyer, particularly in New York real estate, and he maintained an active involvement in educational, charitable and welfare matters. While his practice focused on trusts and estates, Harrison Tweed played a prominent role in bar association and other professional activities. Morris Hadley's corporate practice had an international scope and involved the firm in Far East matters from the 1920s onward. John J. McCloy's career was the most celebrated combining an unparalleled record of public service with years of substantive contributions as a practicing lawyer.

Long recognized as the principal outside counsel to The Chase Manhattan Bank and the Rockefeller family, Milbank currently serves a number of the world's largest industrial, commercial and financial enterprises, several foreign governments and agencies, and many prominent families, educational institutions and charitable organizations. The majority of the firm's more than 400 lawyers are based at the principal office at One Chase Manhattan Plaza in New York. Milbank also serves clients domestically through Washington, D. C. and Los Angeles offices, and internationally through branches in Tokyo, Hong Kong, Singapore, London and Moscow. It was the first American firm to be permitted to establish an office in Tokyo. A leader in finance and related areas of the laws. Milbank in recent years has developed particular expertise in such growing areas of practice as project finance, transportation finance, telecommunications, securitization, emerging markets securities offerings and restructurings, and intellectual property.
